Lightwater Valley Theme Park

Lightwater Valley is one of the most exciting family theme parks in the North of England, with over 35 rides and attractions for thrill seekers of all ages!

Located on the outskirts of Ripon, North Yorkshire, kids, teenagers and grown-ups alike can enjoy a day of non-stop fun at this safe and secure family attraction.

Rides & Attractions at Lightwater Valley

For the little ones:

Lightwater Valley offers all kinds of fantastic family fun for tots aged 1-5! These include:

  • Jumpin’ Jacks! Bouncy Pillow
  • Soft Play & Café
  • Outdoor Activity Park
  • Lightwater Express Train
  • Eagles Creek Farm tractor ride
  • Lots of fun fairground rides
  • Indoor Jungle themed activity area

For the bigger kids:

Junior thrill seekers aged around 5-9 (or over 1.1 metres in height * ) can enjoy rides and activities such as:

  • The Ladybird
  • The thrilling Splash Falls with sharp turns and sudden drops
  • Wet ‘n’ wild fun on the Wild River Rapids
  • Swashbuckling pirate fun aboard the Pirate Swinger, speedy Skull Rock and the tummy-tickling Flying Cutlass.

Thrilling adventures:

Grown-ups and kids over 1.3m* tall have a choice of adrenaline-pumping rides!

  • Take a spinning ride above the treetops on Apollo
  • Be carried through the air in the grip of the Eagle’s Claw
  • Hurtle through dark forests on Europe’s longest roller coaster – The Ultimate
  • Venture into the mysterious world of Raptor Attack’s abandoned mineshaft.

Important Information: *you may need to be accompanied on the ride at this height.

IMPORTANT:
Adult tickets must be booked for any children over 1.3 metres tall, otherwise you will be charged full adult gate rate on arrival. 
Child tickets must be booked for any children between 1.0 metre-1.3 metres tall, otherwise you will be charged full child gate rate on arrival.
Children under 1.0 metre will be charged locally for entry.
Children under 3 years old go FREE of Charge.

Important Information: From time to time certain rides may be unavailable due to essential maintenance. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause as this is beyond our control.

  • Open various dates between 6th April and 3rd November 2019. Please see the calendar for exact dates.
  • Gates open at 9:45am each morning, with fairground rides operating from 10:00am and all major rides and attractions from 10:30am.
  • Our closing time depends on how busy we are and weather conditions and varies between 4:30pm and 6:00pm.
  • Car parking is completely free of charge with coach and disabled parking located at the very front of the car park, just 300 yards from the theme park entrance.
  • Visitor Services is located in the fairground and our customer service team is dedicated to making sure your day is as enjoyable as possible, assisting you with everything from directions to first aid and locating lost children!
  • We are a no smoking theme park with designated smoking areas.
  • Bags and loose items are not permitted on any of our rides. Any articles left unattended at rides are left at the owner's risk, but for your convenience lockers are available in the main entrance of the theme park (charge applies).
  • In the interests of safety only service dogs are allowed into Lightwater Valley.

Onsite Dining

Instead of lugging a picnic around the theme park or having to go back to the car whenever someone’s hungry, you can nibble on the run at one of our many refreshment kiosks and seated restaurants. So, whatever the weather, you can enjoy a variety of delicious meals and snacks across the theme park.

Hungry Harbour

Avast! If ye be lookin’ for a fine fun spot to take ye young scallywags for a bite to eat then ye be wantin’ to stop by for some grub at the Hungry Harbour. There be a booty of tasty treats for ye all to try so tuck into sandwiches, soup, jacket potatoes, hotdogs, chips and pizzas ye greedy gannets!

Cuppa Jo’s Coffee Shop

Located in the theme park entrance building, Jo’s is a great place for a pick-me-up at the start of the day and serves fantastic all day breakfasts along with burgers, chips, toasties, sandwiches, home-made cakes, hot and cold drinks and a variety of children's meals.

The Conservatory

The Conservatory offers a range of theme park treats which the whole family will love including burgers, chicken nuggets, chips and drinks and you can even choose to relax in the sun and eat your meal outside.

Light Bites

In the fairground you’ll find classic treats including candyfloss, yummy doughnuts, ice creams and Slush Puppies at Sweet Treats.

Stop at the Nestle Snack Bar where you can indulge in Kelly’s Cornish ice cream in a range of delicious flavours as well as cold drinks.

The Munch Box outlet in the fairground sells a range of nostalgic fairground snacks including chicken nuggets, hotdogs, burgers and fries, and the great British sandwich (the bacon butty) is served until midday.

If you fancy a hot snack then head up to Ultimate Snacks at the top end of the park, where you and your family can tuck into our scrummy range of pancakes. Also on offer are spicy nachos, huge hotdogs, Mister Softee ice cream and Kelly's ice cream in a range of flavours.

If you're craving for a bit of dairy then look no further than Eagle Bites in the fairground where you can choose from 22 flavours of Kelly's ice cream, hot drinks, frozen yoghurts, milkshakes, banana splits and sundaes.

The Slush Station - make up your own colourful slush from our huge range of flavours, situated in The Fairground.

 

GETTING THERE

By Car

  • Lightwater Valley is located just North of the City of Ripon. For Sat Navs please use postcode HG4 3NB and follow the Brown signs.
  • Once you arrive at the ‘Clocktower’ traffic light junction, take the A6108 towards the village of North Stainley.

By Train

  • The closest train station is Thirsk, with direct services from Manchester, Leeds, York, Middlesbrough and London.
  • From Thirsk railway station you can then catch the Number 70 bus operates to Ripon bus station, and service 159 directly from Ripon market place to Lightwater Valley (very limited service, please check with bus company before purchasing tickets).

By Bus - (very limited service, please check with bus company before purchasing  tickets)

  • Local bus services can be found on the Dales & District bus website.
  • From Ripon market place, service 159 stops at Lightwater Valley.
  • From Leeds and Harrogate, the luxury bus service “Transdev 36” runs daily to Ripon bus station

Ticket Policies

  • Children aged 0-2 years of age enter for free!
  • Children under 1.0 metre in height (and 3 years of age and above) need to purchase their ticket at the Gate. Under 1.0 metre tickets are discounted to £8pp with an accompanying AttractionTix voucher (usual Gate Price is £10pp)
  • Children over 1.3 metres in height need to purchase an adult ticket.
  • Failure to purchase the relevant ticket according to height will result in being charged full gate rate on arrival.
  • Over 60s can enter for just £12 when accompanied by a paying guest
  • *Excluding special events
  • 1x FREE carer ticket is provided per paid ticket when accompanying a guests with disabilities.
  • Bookings that require more than one Carer Tickets cannot be booked via Attraction World and need to be pre-booked directly with Lightwater Valley or via their website where additional carer tickets can be purchased at a discount. 
  • In order to qualify for the free carer entry, guests would need to produce either a blue badge or DLA/PIP letter when picking up their tickets at the admissions desk.
  • Seniors 60+ or Pregnant ladies can purchase their ticket directly at the gates for only £12.00. Valid Photo ID would need to be shown as well as a Maternity exemption certificate.
     
  • Please Note: Those entitled to concessionary rates are not automatically entitled to front of queue passes. Only those for whom queueing would cause unnecessary discomfort or distress will be entitled to the passes when producing one of two documents; a Blue Badge or a letter from GP or Consultant to the Lightwater Valley team in Visitor Services.
  • A hearing loop system is operated at the individual pay kiosks and at Visitor Services at the park.

Accessibility

Parking

  • The Disabled car park is situated directly adjacent to the park entrance.
  • Parking is clearly marked and available to blue badge holders only. (Please contact Reception or Visitor Services if this would cause a problem.)
  • There are spaces for mini – buses.

Visitor Services

  • Located and accessed from the Fairground, we should be your first point of call during your visit.
  • We will be able to offer advice on ride and attraction access and requirements, issue preferential ride access wristbands where queuing would cause unnecessary discomfort or distress, and further advice on facilities for disabled guests.
  • A4 page magnifiers and easy grip pens are available.
  • If you encounter any problems during your visit please inform us.

Toilets

Accessible toilets are available throughout the park at:

  • The Bungalow situated immediately in front of the Disabled car park.
  • In the Market building towards the Theatre entrance.
  • At the Fort area near to the Fort train station.
  • At Whistle stop train station area.
  • Please see the park map for locations or ask any member of staff for directions.

Alice in Winterland Event:

22nd November until 30th December 2019 on select dates.

Open for the evening only - from 4pm until 7pm. The Theme Park and Rides will NOT be open.

This year Lightwater Valley are holding a festive event - the Alice in Winterland illuminated lantern trail!

There will be hundreds of giant illuminated light sculptures which illustrate the stories form Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass. Discover a giant Chess Board, watch the Mad Hatter prepare for his tea party, marvel at the four-metre tall Alice and come face-to-face with the infamous Queen of Hearts herself!

Alice in Winterland Event:

This year Lightwater Valley are holding a festive event - the Alice in Winterland illuminated lantern trail!

There will be hundreds of giant illuminated light sculptures which illustrate the stories form Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass. Discover a giant Chess Board, watch the Mad Hatter prepare for his tea party, marvel at the four-metre tall Alice and come face-to-face with the infamous Queen of Hearts herself!

Ticket Information

Inclusions: Evening Entrance to the Alice in Winterland event.

Exclusions: Theme Park Rides - the theme park is only open for the evening event and no rides will be open.
